Validating identity on wireless network

Let your router do pppoe and routing, it's really designed for that. It seems that currently, your computer is trying to create a pppoe session (which involves logging in, validating identity etc). Change the wireless settings to create a new wireless ssid that you have not used before.

Last week, I did a clean install of Windows XP on a laptop, and when I took it home, I had the validating identity problem and couldn't connect to my home network. Since 2002 when XP first came out up until probably around the past year or so, I never had to uncheck the "Enable 802.1x authentication".Even after I unchecked the box, it still wouldn't connect, but I didn't spend much time trying to connect after it didn't work the first time. I am just trying to figure out why that is an issue now and not before.

Chances are that you don't have any issues when you are connecting to wireless using WEP Encryption. I have slipstreamed my XP install cd with Service pack 3, so my installs all usually have svp3 right from the start.
